As I walk down these steps so grey
And leave this world of rose and day
I wonder, how far must I go?
And pray I do not lose my way.
Some secrets only darkness shows
As seeds must sink before they grow
So cold, so cold, and so alone –
What sleeps below I do not know.
One step, one more, piled on like stones:
The weight of walls and castle thrones,
But words not mine keep bane at bay
And hold together flesh and bone.
As I walk down these steps so grey
Away from rose, away from day
I pray that I’ll return this way.
I walk away, I walk away
