When I needed to pray

But couldn’t find the words to speak

How can you forget something you’ve done your whole life?

So I moved to the little hums that broke through the silence of my room

Formed a delicate dance

and sent it to God

In hopes that He knew what I couldn’t understand

I prayed in my own right

for it to one day be revealed to me

because that was the only thing I could do.

Maybe it wasn’t me forgetting,

but growing into myself

Allowing my heart to cry out in the way it needed to,

and not the way I thought it should
